I would not consider Lucky 32 to be comfort food. It's more aspirational frou frou Southern, and the last few times we went, we felt the quality had gone down a bit.
Well, maybe Anthony Bourdain got it right in this respect. I was in line at BBQ in Durham. About 14 people were waiting. Looked like the United Nations with Asians, blacks, white construction workers represented....Maybe food, as Anthony said, really does bring people together...It is a delicious idea anyway....Pork ribs, hush puppies and collards for the boys. I love me their mac n' cheese!
Has anyone mentioned Wilson's Eatery for more "upscale" comfort food?
I wouldn't say Wilson's is upscale but I like it a lot. But more so for sandwiches and stuff like that. Think it falls a little short of the comfort food definition.
Isn't the term "Comfort Food" subjective? Or in these parts does it mean more country style/soul food per the OP?
For me "Comfort Food" is either a Greek Diner, Chinese take-out, family Italian food, egg on a Kaiser, or a PBJ.
Patriot, I suspect that you ain't from around here. Comfort food here is country style/soul food. Like yo mama cooked if she was from here. Not Greek or Chinese or French. If you don't know what it is, then you wouldn't understand. Don't get me wrong, I love Greek, Indian, and Chinese food. But sometimes you want to go back to your roots, flavor wise.
