That’s correct. NCDOT is following the directive of it’s boss, the NCGA.

Speaking of Nabisco, our offices since 2007 have been on Greenfield Parkway. Still had the overhead wiring for the traffic signals that were pulled after Nabisco backed out. Did get Butterball HQ out there.

While Vinfast issued press releases back in April for pricing, they quietly updated their pricing with increases on the website in September with no formal announcement. The automotive press has started picking up on the moves and reached out to Vinfast for comment. Like most automakers with price increases, rising material costs are the main factor. They also completely dropped the "Flexible" battery subscription model for one simple fixed monthly payment with unlimited miles. THe battery subscription price is available through end of 2023 as a "special intro to pioneers"... i.e. expect another price increase in 2024.

VF8:
No battery (subscription only): Now $42,200 (previously $40,700)
Battery subscription: Now $169/month (previously $110/month)
With battery included: $57,000 (previously could not buy battery)

VF9:
No battery (subscription only): Now $57,500 (previously $55,500)
Battery subscription: $219/month (previously $160/month)
With battery: $76,000 (previously could not buy battery)

Vinfast is also making moves to balance battery subscriptions vs buying in the US long term and phase towards purchasing the battery like any other automaker.
"As previously announced, the battery subscription policy will be applied to all EVs sold until the end of 2023. From 2024, only about 50% of EVs sold will be eligible for this policy. From September 1, 2022, VinFast officially offers two options for customers: lease batteries or buy batteries with cars. This policy is applied in all of our markets."

VinFast wants to start vehicle production in Chatham County by July 2024. It's an ambitious goal, but the county is providing help to meet the target.

These are pretty minor price increases. Much less than the annual inflation rate at this point. Not sure there is any nefarious activity ("quietly increasing prices")

35-55% increase in the battery subscription fee. That's where automakers are really getting pinched at the moment and having to pass it along.

Ah, I was looking at the cost of the car with subscription. That is a bigger increase, I agree. Still though, it's not that much. It ends up being an extra $600-700/yr.

But your point makes more sense to me now. Thanks for responding with good info!

Saw this on a train board. To be taken with a grain of salt...

"Just throwing this out there as nothing but pure speculation,
but another possible explanation of the Raleigh based jobs Corman
is posting could be VinFast. The job posting reads
RJ Corman Railroad Switching Company. Could be poor editing on a
copy/paste from a different posting. Could be that it really is a
switching contract and not a railroad. VinFast (a Vietnamese car
company with close ties to GM and BMW) is building their first
North America assembly plant in Moncure NC, just south of Raleigh
on the CSX S Line. Vehicle Assembly plant, EV Battery plant, etc -
7000 employees, 200,000 cars and SUVs a year. Vietnamese assembled
vehicles go on sale in the US next year. They want vehicles rolling
off Moncure line in 2024. To meet the crazy tight deadlines, I could
see VinFast awarding one contract to someone to handle "rail".
Design, build, operate, and maintain all in one big contract. Just a crazy thought."
