Conversion rate is more important than search ranking

I agree. Actually providing changing, relevant content about your area on your site has always been the best way to stay at the top of the search results. There is no need in most smaller markets to have to trick the search engines. A blog makes this easy to do. Another important thing for all those spending money on SEO hoping to get their site at the top of the results is to remember that traffic means nothing if the site can't turn eyeballs into some form of contact. Does your site generate the maximum amount of inquiries possible with the traffic it receives? Always be looking at your site with a critical eye and don't be afraid to tweak it to better your conversion rate.
I have actually been reading about SEO and it's mind numbing after a while. There are so many charlatans out there and you honestly don't know who to trust. I'd pay good money to run a campaign upon the launch of a website if I could only find a company that was trustworthy, employed white hat methods and produced results. They most certainly are out there, but how to know is something else entirely.
Just wanted to add . . . as a website developer . . . one overlooked area for SEO placement are ALT tags on any graphics wh/ appear on your website. Make sure those ALT tags have rich key industry words in them as they are scanned by bots in the same manner as all other copy on the page. Use niche words, even zip codes, in your ALT descriptions of any property you may be featuring on your page or that may appear in a slider.
This means even if you have a photo of yourself, for ex, the ALT tag should have words that identify your particular niche, i.e. portland-experienced-foreclosure-broker.
Maybe everyone already knows that, but just thought I would throw it out there in case you didn't.
SEO is highly complex and lasts for years after the job is done if it is done correctly , if you search for a large terms say insurance or real estate and it show to the left its planned and very expensive.
Google sells pay per click they force the clicks through with a vast network not pin point clicks coming from one term , click fraud is very high as much as 40% thats if someone that is in your niche does not have it out for you and fakes clicks .
I have a client who does 40% of their traffic from seo terms and they are number 2 for the term employment nationwide , thsi has added great value toy their firm and the quality of traffic is super .
Real Estate is a very hard term to rank for and trust me the firm front page of Google for that are spending tons to rank there its no mistake I assure you and well worth the money .
You better plan what your going to do now as pay per click for any good terms will keep rising and soon only the richest firm will be able to afford to compete.

You cant pay to be #1. Your website needs to be useful to people, people want to go there and visit often. If your trying to compete with realtor.com, trulia, zillow, etc. your just wasting your money.
