For me, the response "single by choice" was a polite way of saying "mind your own business" and/or "No, I really don't want to be set up with your unemployed nephew".
Exactly! A coworker of mine mentioned recently she may "have somebody for me." I'd imagine a friend of her chronically unemployed (not only through bad times) loser BF... Thanks, but no thanks.

I'm open to ideas and I'm single until I come across somebody worthwhile, but I'm not actively searching. If it happens, fine; if it doesn't, fine again.

I hear MOSTLY women say this. I always think is there any other reason why someone would be single other than it being their own choice?
I think they say it because they think is sounds nice rolling off of their lips. It really does not make any sense.
What does it mean?
I think it's because a lot of the time if a woman says she is single, people are sympathetic and almost take pity on them.
It's kind of their way of saying "it's ok don't worry, I am single and it's my own choice, it's not because I am some loser who can't find a man - I actually WANT to be single".

A. Stubborn and refuse to change
B. Fat
C. unsociable
D. in jail
E. make little money
F. short
G. didn't get the pretty gene.
H. lack self-estem
I. Have acne
J. Give off the creep vibe.
K. B*tchy
L.Too nice.
M. Too smart.
N. Crazy
O. Act like a dork
P. dumb
Q. and so many more...

Hope I'm not repeating anyone in saying this, because I haven't looked at all the responses. But I always thought it meant when a woman was expected to be in a relationship leading to marriage and motherhood, she instead chose to be single as a statement to the rest of the world that she didn't need a man to be happy.
