Spinster is always used as a derogatory term. Stereotypically, it refers to an older woman who is "unmarried, childless, prissy, and repressed" and has reached menopause.
IMO, as long as she's NOT prissy and repressed, she's probably darn smart! I know several women who have never married, have never had children, yet are smart, interesting, fun, independent, accomplished, and sexual.
One thing is for sure, if a woman does not have kids and is smart, she probably will be wealthier than the ones that have kids. Raising kids is very expensive these days.
It's so sexist and so dated. Who even uses the word "spinster" anymore? What about a man who is 50 and never been married, is there a similarly pejorative word to describe him?
Who cares whether a woman (or a man), ever gets married? It's their life and their choice. and People who seem to want to label them are the ones with the problem. Not the happily single person being labelled.
I currently know 2 women who I guess could be called "spinsters." One of them is just a downright nasty b*tch that no man is right mind would marry. The other one i just dont understand why she isnt married. She is pretty, talented, very intelligent and successful. Maybe she is too picky? Or she's a scaredy cat?
Wait.... Spinster is A person whose occupation is spinning. Right?
I am looking forward to changing careers soon so I think I would love to become a spinster. They make 6figures these days plus benefits.
Wow...who knew? I think I need to reevaluate my current career path.
