I would think you honor them for what they ARE, not what they WERE.
Of course I could be wrong - I haven't had parents for many years now.
Exactly! Really to be quite honest. I really could give two shyts about Mother's Day. Really. If it wasn't my kids making a big deal out of it, I'd do nothing special tomorrow. But my kids want to spoil me on that day so who am I to ruin their fun??
I think it's appropriate to still honor them no matter how old you are - because she's still your mother and one day a year probably doesn't even come close to making up for the daily years of crap you put her through all your life.
Now Father's Day, on the other hand - it should be a mandatory world-wide holiday with free money, alcohol and drugs and hot sex with beautiful strangers for all fathers.

I'm gonna drop by my mom's house tomorrow, after they get home from church. Won't be a long visit...I have plans with my son, for MY mother's day. I usually take her out to eat dinner, but I really wanted to spend this mother's day more with my son, than my mom. My mom is probably not happy about that - I'm the only one of the kids that live here, but oh well. I've always found Mothers's Day to be annoying for just that reason. Do I sound selfish or what.
Have a Wonderful, Special Day with your beloved Son...
