"We have to show the other guy who is boss"

We don't have to do anything of the sort

Again, getting angry with someone is no excuse for physical violence.

Yes, I will not deny that men are more violent but the theme is the same. It is about gaining power but mostly because the underlying feeling is fear. Women can be fearful as well, you know. It leads to a very aggressive, unhappy life.

I may be a "girly man," but I'm a man nonetheless. And I've never had a physical fight in my life. I've been punched a couple of times as a kid, but I knew I was in the wrong, and I walked away. As an adult, I've never had a physical altercation of any sort. And, yes, I've had men insult me in public.

Why do some men feel like they have to shame other men in front of women?

My answer... I dont know. Now Jedi Master Crisan, you answer the question of the thread. Thanks.

It is important to be able to show your aggressive side but it is more like being assertive. Deciding when to be assertive vs. just laughing it off is an art. It depends on the situation.

My friend's son was bullied at school. Even though his parents had the school take care of the other student, I noticed a change in her son. He seems weaker even though that other student has left him alone. That alone probably will have a long lasting impact.

Some men (like me) aren't very tough. Perhaps it is because we were never forced to deal with bullying on our own as a kid. Some of us likely wouldn't survive in some environments. Not all of us men are macho. When I have encountered bullying situations, my response has always been to get away. I may not be able to survive an environment where I am not able to get away so easily. Or, maybe, I'd learn to become tougher. This kid will likely encounter other difficult situations in his life, and he will learn to deal with them in his own way. In modern society, it is not always necessary to learn to be aggressive in order to survive.

I agree. Most situations are not dangerous.
