65,000 residents are under mandatory evac orders, the National Guard is out and we rented a 26' van last night to save as much as we could from the club. The water there is already coming in and the main floor will probably be under a few feet.
Not good.
But I'm safe and on high ground and warm, so I'm good. Thank Buddha for friends - I can't see myself pedaling my road bike through the river ...
Glad to hear you are safe and dry!
Did you have to evacuate your residence or just the club?
Meh - if I had to, I could have walked to some other friend's houses, but I would have been waist-deep in nasty river water. Thing is, a lot of people have already purchased their oil supplies because of the cheaper summer prices, and those tanks are breaking open and adding to the pollution.

Why is it flooding?
We got remnants of Tropical Storm Lee, added to the previous rainfall we've been having, and we're in a notorious flood plain ...

It's been pouring down here for the last two days for the same reason and two years ago I remember we had to abandon an outdoor event because I was knee deep in water from another hurricane aftermath. What was real bizarre is the temperature went from a muggy 97 degrees to 66 degees overnight and it's cold. Dropping into the low 50s at night.
I just went down to the local New Delhi deli to get a few things - luckily I have that Submariner ability to command sea creatures and was able to ride two dolphins there and back.
The temps aren't too bad here now - 70-something - but it's getting into the 60's at night, enough to chill you if you're wet.
And of course, the local news station is showing pictures of people driving their cars through flooded areas at full speed, people going onto bridges that have DO NOT CROSS - POLICE LINE tape on them and other idiotic behavior.
The flood gates are up, people are sandbagging like crazy and we won't get high water until around midnight yet.
Some pics of the club, courtesy of a neighbor - normally the riverbank is about 300' to the right, with a nice park in-between ...
