When you first start dating I think it's horrible idea to give woman money to pay their bills or for beauty reasons. She technically hasn't "earned" it and she knows it. So she won't generally appreciate the gesture. That is just my opinion. But let's say you have been dating her for a couple of months and she starts dropping hints of bills being due.
What's the general rule of thumb for giving your girlfriend money?
Never. She is a big girl and should take care of her own bills. If she cannot, then she should revise her budget.
I recently made an exception to this rule because my girl is battlign cancer and can't work but even then its only when she really needs it and only for thigns like medicine or occasionally a skincare product or something if she needs it.
I won't pay her medical bills because I know they wont refuse her treatment and I know they will take payment plans and stuff so why bankrupt myself for that but I will give her a few bucks for things here and there but we've been together for 2 years and only because she's sick.
I would never give a girlfriend money. She isn't a hooker, she's my girlfriend. Of course I'll take care of dinners and movie tickets at random, but we usually split bills and give each other gifts, that's it.
