No, not you. I inserted the clarifiction to clarify who I was talking about; Internet men who rant about women. Whether you are one or not is besides the point. What I'm saying is aging males who didn't look so good when they were young aren't going to look so good when they're old (they will look worse), so any belief they may have about better skin condition compared to women they don't know is irrelevant. It's a moot point. I also challenge the notion in it's entirety. The best looking men will age nicely. That is not most men and that's not the men under discussion. So, it makes no difference. Follow?
What I meant was and I'll put it simply. Most men age better than most women. Obviously, there are exceptions. If a man has salt and pepper hair, it is considered sexy, distinguished, etc. When a women gets it, she's considered old. As we age, our skin gets tighter. This also benefits the man, as tightness is more associated with hard/ aging/ manly. Whereas soft skin is associated with beauty/ youth. Which on a sub-conscious level it is also associated with fertility. That's all I'm saying. Once again, there are exceptions. So this in essence might be one reason why women look to marry sooner. They also might look to want to marry sooner because they have a short window of opportunity to get pregnant/ have kids. They also don't want to be too old when they have them. Neither do most men.
I thought the OP just wanted to know why they couldn't just continue to shack up so he could keep his options open. I did not see that he was speaking of women in general but those tired of dating and living together and maybe thinking about having children, buying a home and not having everyone say to her "Are you EVER going to get married?".
The fact of the matter is marriage is declining and women are starting to out earn men. Marriage is an outdated institution and the sooner it goes away, the better. Then we will have laws that reflect the realities of relationships instead of this ridiculous notion that the nuclear family is the be all and end all of society. America is way behind with this particular subject. European and Scandinavian countries are far more equitable and have better family-friendly policies entrenched in their laws.

I do agree with your sentiment. And no, you don't stay together for the kids if your husband physically/emotionally abuses you, but having a loving/supportive mother and father living under the same roof is a major advantage for a kid to experience and I think it's a shame that so many are robbed of that opportunity to grow up around a healthy/functional relationship. I can guarantee we wouldn't have so many trainwrecks posting here today if they were a part of a traditional nuclear family.

Like climbing the corporate ladder? If that's considered progress by women (and men for that matter), we've sold our souls for absolutely nothing of real value. I never saw anyone wish they would have spent more time chasing dollars on their deathbed instead of spending more time with loved ones.
We all have to pay the bills and like being able to buy nice things/travel/etc with our money, but there's a balance you need to find. You can't take it with you when you go
I'm not a money hoarder by any stretch of the imagination. I shop and travel and buy lavish gifts for family/friends/so's. I think my balance is fine. I've worked since I was 15 years old and I love working. It makes me happy. School and learning and meeting new people also makes me happy.
I work hard and party harder. I don't have any regrets in my life. Marriage and children aren't part of that equation and I am content with that because I am otherwise fulfilled.
