We're just shy of 4 hours.

That is one city I would move to in a heartbeat. I've been there quite a few times now...LOVE that place!
The downtown area is awesome...all walkable, great shops, restaurants and history.

Is there a particular place you stay that's central?

Downtown right in the heart of it all. I let them valet my car and I don't see it again until I'm ready to leave the city. I've stayed at DoubleTree and Hampton Inn. DoubleTree is much closer to everything and you can get some reasonable deals for the hotel if it's not peak season (March-June are peak...July is very hot and August is brutal, but you can get an awesome deal on hotels).

Hampton Inn is a bit towards the outskirts of downtown...it's not a bad location but if you are planning on going by yourself and want to walk I wouldn't recommend it.

We are planning to go in March for my birthday and I think we are going to check out something more waterfront like the Harbour View Inn or Vendue Inn.

June wasn't much better, temps in the 80s and humidity to match.

I don't mind the 80's. It's when it's 95+ and humid that I finally call mercy!

March is FABULOUS though. The last week of March is their busiest time of year but so worth it. It was in the low 80's and dry. Perfect weather.

Our windchill warning starts at midnight. I picked up some fleece lined leggings and an extra pair of wool socks tonight, so I might survive.

Charleston rocks! Great downtown area, and I love the old architecture! Richmond VA is similar this way

Saw Eddie Griffin in Arlington last night. Had some decent jokes but I didn't like his 1000+ uses of the n word and he had a segment of his act talking about gays using a particular f word that rubbed me the wrong way.

I'm thinking about getting into standup myself and it may shock audiences to hear a black comedian who doesn't curse every line.

I spoke to soon about no longer being snowed in and housebound...it dumped more last night and it's still cranking it out all morning.
