I feel like I will only be satisfied if I'm married or loved by a brave man
Maybe you will only be satisfied if you're married to a man with a decent, steady paycheck. A lot of women who chase after cops and firemen are attracted to their incomes and job security.

Depends on which ones you're talking about. But in no particular order:
Not there when you need them
Second fiddle to career
Sacrificed holidays
Job stress
Worry about death and dismemberment
Worry about bloodborne pathogens
Cold, callous, and compartmentalizing
Suspicion of everyone around them
Inability to relax
Infidelity
Too much drinking
Lousy temper
Fascination with guns
Nervous breakdowns
Big egos
Short lives
Neo-conservative politics
The Big Three of Male-Dominated Fields: Racism, sexism, and homophobia
And then, when they do things right, you still have to deal with the ungrateful public.
I'm 47. The last 30-40 years of my life will be peaceful, non-violent, and gun-free if it kills me.
Lilac110, I live in expensive hippyville. We should trade location and place.
The others I can see but I'd like to hear more about this one...
PTSD, to be exact.
Believe me, I am not without sympathy, especially for our vets. I think it's a travesty of justice what they go through for their care in the U.S.
But when a cop flips out, you don't want to be in the room. Fortunately, I haven't had to deal with that, but I've had friends and family who have, and it's not pretty. Been to cop suicide funerals, too. Not fun. Line-of-duty deaths, too. In fact, the one LTR I had with a DC cop back in my 20s, I remember him telling me I should invest in a black dress. He was right.
