The Northeast, especially New England, is a lot like England across the pond. What I mean by this is that the average looking female Brit is not that attractive, but the UK has produced some of the most beautiful girls in the world; Elizabeth Hurley, Catherine Zeta Jones, Sienna Miller and Kate Middleton. But you will never even get close to these gals unless you're in a higher echelon of class. This is the Northeast in a nutshell.
In the South, it's like living in Brazil, where the average girl working at the grocery store is hot. Most of the time, they do not even realize how attractive they are. I have had a blast down here since moving from Boston. The only problem I've had is when you finally snag one of these gorgeous dames, they tend to annoy you with their insistence on what a "man" is because of their narrow views grounded in Southern culture.
