Weird, I dated a guy significantly younger than me and no one said anything. He met my friends, I met his, no funny looks when we went out.

"Peril"??

Really I think you ought to get out more.

Having mean kids say nasty things about your mom is NOT "peril".

Okay... but I'll bet you weren't married, like the OP is.

Your response is despicable. Horrid. The list of teenage suicides due to bullying is long.

You should be ashamed of yourself minimizing the effects of bullying like this on a public forum.

The solution is not for a grown woman to decide whether or not to engage in a consensual relationship with a grown man, based on whether her son's classmates might say nasty things; the solution is to come down on the classmates.

What's next, she has to check in with her son's classmates if she decides to change her hairstyle, take a different job, get a new dog?

I bet if she decided to have a relationship with a man of a different race - or if she decided to have a relationship with a woman - you wouldn't be telling her she's WRONG for doing that and should stop because the classmates say nasty things.

That's not a large enough age gap for most people to notice or even care. Unless it's a HUGE age gap, like 20+ years, people are more likely to notice a looks gap than an age gap.

Yeah. Children need to learn to be tough, not worried about microaggressions.

Parents unconditional love is one way. Let them know they have worth regardless of what peers or other people may say.

When you get in the real world, you will run into rude and nasty people, maybe even worse than school.

I find it odd that the OP seems more concerned about herself and not her son. She has shared nothing about what the son thinks or feels about the situation.
