I do think some women have a sense of entitlement that being a female alone demands respect.. nobodies owed anything in this world you should get treated the way you treat other people..

Actually someone wrote a whole book on it. My wife & I both read it and found it pretty good.

Would you like to elaborate on that, perhaps with some specific examples.

Not so much "respect" as "appreciation".

Respect is a two-way street. To get respect you have to give it. Women who respect themselves and others tend to garner respect from men and vice versa. Respect shouldn't be handed out on a silver platter.

I agree with this. But there is a general level of respect you give to everyone until they have shown they don't deserve it.

The "respect" women notion which has supposedly been foisted on men was probably put in play to counteract the decades, even centuries of "obey" husband/father/brother/anybody-with-a penis that was militantly imposed on women.

Because women have been (and are still, in many places in the world) expected to obey a man and men routinely understood this to be the status quo changes to laws and society in general have meant that men need to unlearn the expectation that women will obey them. Respect women was a good way to go with it and I like that women (particularly the ladies around here) have very quickly expanded it to respect others.

You don't stay away from them out of respect. You avoid them because you seem certain you will be rejected. That has nothing to do with respect and if you had more confidence you would not mind "harassing" women at bars.

That sums it up nicely.
