I personally like being called Sugar! I do use it on other people too.

Where I live, it's pretty common for female servers (especially the ones who are middle-aged or older) to call customers things like "Honey" or "Sweetie." It bugs me a little, but is no big deal. The ones that really rub me the wrong way are "Babe" and "Chicky." I have had waitresses call me such names, and I hate that - especially Chicky. And there's one that calls people "Chicky Babe." Yuck.

I don't think it is condescending to be called by (baby, honey, darling or sweetie). I guess it will depend on the circumstances. I especially like "darling." I think such little pet names r cute and endearing.

There is a diversity of opinion on the matter throughout this thread. Give it a read sometime.

I imagine that we have all heard people say: "Well bless your little soul"

I once heard a minister saying "Well bless your dark little soul". It was stated very quickly and you had to think about what you heard.
