Is there a biblical directive to circumcise males?

I agree, and I do think it's wrong. However, that would be straying into religious freedom territory and the US would never get behind that. It would be better to educate the people who do it because they think it's normal and have pediatricians and urologists refuse to do it for anyone who was not *devoutly* religious. That way it would become a minority rather than a majority of people doing this (especially here in the US).

So many people do it because the son should "look like daddy." Well, if people stopped doing it for no good reason, then their sons would have intact sons who "look like daddy" and the issue would go away for the most part.

No. If male circumcision is allowed, and female circumcision is just as safe, it should be allowed. How dare anyone say that someone's decision isn't part of their religion, or define their religion for them?

What jurisdiction states a person by law must show their face?

Where is this right at? I do not see it listed as a right.

Are you wishing for laws to support a police state or something? As far as I am concerned, police do not need to interact with me at all unless their is probable cause to do so.

NO, female circumcision is NOT "just as safe"- it is not safe at all. It is a completely different procedure. I won't go into the grisly details, there is plenty online if you want to know what they are doing. It is not religiously derived, it is a regional custom that has nothing to do with religion. Female circumcision does not appear in the Quran nor in the Tanakh, the basis of the the Muslim and Jewish faith.

In addition, there is even a movement among Jewish mothers against circumcision.

Hopefully not that awful mismash at Genesis 17. That really proves nothing outside of this poor men and slaves associated directly with Abraham.

Hmm, interesting question.

So if female circumcision is part of a religion, why is it right for the community to decide and define for the girl-child her religion? Why force her to be branded with a particular religion's rites and rituals before she is able to decide FOR HERSELF what her religion will be and to VOLUNTARILY choose female circumcision if she wishes.

But you have to understand that much of female circumcision isn't like male circumcision. It is often called FGM or Female Genital Mutilation ... because that's exactly what it is. The procedure is designed to make sex painful and the vagina is often sealed up save for a small hole. It is wholly immoral to subject children to this barbarism, especially since the results will be there for the rest of her life - even if she decides to break away from her community and her religion. Normal intimate relations will be forever impossible for her.
