Thought control? You believe people have the power to exert thought control? (The "beating down" belief is just the martyr syndrome that is much beloved by some conservative Christians. "We're not getting our way!!!!! They're beating us down!!!''' Meanwhile most gays can tell horrific stories of actual beat downs but who cares about them? When's the last time someone beat the crap out of you for being a Christian?)
Meanwhile... Insert spooky supernatural background music here. Because that's pretty much the only way someone could have control over another person's thoughts.
The Duck Dynasty thing was a classic example. Phil dared to go against the favored class and they attacked. You dare not express a thought that goes contrary to them.

I think you mean you dare not light a candle to try to illuminate a fundamentalist's darkened mind.
Waste of good candles.
I enjoyed the show and watched it regularly 'til Phil spit his venom. My sons even bought me all kinds of DD gear/videos/books for Christmas.
Haven't watched it since and won't unless/until Phil tumbles out of his canoe in the swamp of Damascus, suddenly realizes what a knob he was - and to demonstrate his conversion is real - donates a tithe of the show's earnings to the LGBT community.
Then I'll probably watch again.
And the Christmas gifts are in my closet. If Phil fails to see the light, I'll donate them to charity.

Attack? Ummm... Phil Robertson was not attacked. Having served in Vietnam there's a good chance Uncle Si was attacked. Being the recipient of other people using the First Amendment .... not so much. Uproarious. Phil gets some push back and he's OH, NOES!!! Under attack. Goodness, the American right is weak as newborn kittens if y'all consider Phil an example of being under attack.
(You might also want to reconsider the whole "favored class" idea. Phil Robertson is a multi-millionaire with power. (He doesn't fly coach and he sits in board rooms with reeeeeally comfy chairs. Ol' Phil is several classes above the people who wrote angry letters to A&E.)

Actually, fascism tends to result in thought control. You don't dare to speak out against the ruling class, or you will be beaten down. We've seen that in recent months when people dare to suggest homosexuality isn't good or healthy.
No, Vizio, fascism isn't about "thought control." Fascism is mostly about eliminating the disenters and using fear to keep the rest in line. Either fear or cult of personality.
Fascism is almost never permissive, either. One of the hallmarks of fascism is a decline in freedoms, not an increase. Thus claiming that ALLOWING gay marriage is fascistic is simply ridiculous. I don't think you really understand what fascism is.
No, fascism is not the lack of getting your own way, either. Nor is fascism defined as having to hear opinions you disagree with. What astounds me is how you can whine and boohoo about gay marriage and how you're being so persecuted!! Yet 32 states have actively banned gay marriage. I guess you won't feel satisfied until all 50 states have banned it ... and the opposition sits down and shuts up.

You just don't get it, do you.
The "Duck Dynasty" thing had nothing to do with Phil's attack on gays. It was about ratings and sensationalism. Remember the group "2 Live Crew" that was heavily censored for their "Me So Horny" song? Because of the censorship and the media buzz, an otherwise mediocre band of the 90's became a pop culture icon.
Controversies like these cause viewership to soar - and that means more advertizing revenue for A&E.
Corporations rarely do anything out of principle or ideology. Everything they do is designed to make money.
After all, why do you think A&E let him back on the show? It's because firing him permanently would not draw people to the show. A company like A&E cannot capitalize on Robertson's controversial opinions if he's not on the show for people to watch. So they brought him back after booting him JUST long enough for the controversy to brew. I wouldn't doubt if Robertson was actually "in on it."
If you really think this incident with Phil Robertson was done for the LGBT community or to ruthlessly "beat down" (oh brother) Christian ideas, you really don't understand how the business world works or its motivations.
There is nothing like controversy and censorship to make something popular.

Fundamentalists (of any religion) are pros at using fear to get people to sign up. It makes a very weird kind of sense that politically conservative Christians have made it their new "must use" word. They seem to LOVE to throw that word at anyone who dissents from their norm.
It's quite amusing. Most wouldn't know a historical fascist if Mussolini suddenly appeared in the front pew.
The use of "class" is a new. Hmmmmm.... Sounds like Eva Peron complaining about being a member or the poor working class. Right up to the moment she married Peron, got rich off the peasants and became the wife of a real, live fascist.
