I meant, specific to the topic at hand, which is what we are commenting on....let go the history of whoever you feel was engaged in racism decades ago. Specifically here, that is the Southern Baptists

It is no longer. Be appreciative of that. Hatred, bitterness towards a specific group is now the past. At least regarding the Southern Baptists as a whole.
So you get to choose what people should let go.

Have you ever heard of a thing called "a principle".

Why are the Southern Baptists still so white?

Do we need to keep all these things past societies accepted that society now views as abominations dredged up, demand apologies and reparations. For how long? Will our great, great grandchildren and their children's children be held accountable for our societal norms of today?
As long as people like you try to paint christianity in some warm, glowing light, I'm going to paint christianity in an historical light.

God isn't ending sin. He is using it for his glory, temporarily. For a very short time compared to eternity.
He wants to be glorified. If there was no sorrow, anger, etc.. which is the result of sin, there would be no brokenness. No desire to turn to the light for salvation. No meek ones to inherit the earth. We would all do as OUR heart desires, not his desires.

Sin is used for good. King David was an adulterer, killer, allowed one of his sons to suffer no consequences for raping a woman, etc..he was rotten to the core. But he was saved. He belonged to GOD... who took his own baby son from him. This made King David say "He cannot come back to me but I can go to him" and eventually king David will go to be with his son in heaven. Th death of his son made him look to the Light, look to heaven, the eternal, not to sin. To keep committing sin.

It had the effect God desired. He wanted David to glorify him and that is what happened.

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.etc.. Romans 8:28

Even during suffering, God has a plan. It is being used to draw you to him, so you may live forever with him in heaven. He will not force anyone to live eternally with him who doesn't want to. If he has a particular fancy for you, then he may throw darts, or bad things which happen to you to draw you to him. It's a theme all throughout the bible. And the mightier he might use you, the harder and faster the arrows may come. It is to mold you into Christ. But as Apostle paul did, rejoice in sufferings. Imagine how many people he showed his true love for in standing up for them against evil.

Read about Lazarus and the Rich Man. Who was comforted in the bosom of abraham? It was lazarus. Not the evil rich man who wouldn't feed him when he was starving to death and even allowed his dogs to lick his wounds. Now he is in torment wanting lazarus to go back to warn his relatives. Answer? they have moses and the prophets. If he doesn't believe them, then he won't believe someone coming back from the dead warning them. You also have Moses and the prophets. You also have the story of lazarus and the rich man. Read about them

We've already been given the life you want, one where there is no sin and our parents screwed that up. They ate the fruit in the garden, transgressing the ONE rule given to them. They did not appreciate a GARDEN OF EDEN where everything was within their reach.
They had the whole world at their fingertips, no sorrow or crying, nothing but happiness. But were not into glorifying God so much or appreciating his gifts. They cared more about each other and/or Satan and following his beguliing.

There is no other way to appreciate the good, our LORD, than to know the bad. Then the GOOD looks really GOOD.

What you paint is of the evil one, it is not of Christianity UNLESS it is bible based. Evil is used to turn people to him, to the light.

Unbelievers generally have no interest in the bible,, aka the eternal, only interest of earthly things. And almost always, it is being honed in on sin. Sin is all they know, you cannot expect any different.

Old Testament shows us how flawed the old system was, also known as the old covenant.
Otherwise how we can appreciate the new covenant.

Sorry, but we're talking about positions taken by a christian church.

I'm not going to let you whitewash America's christian past.

So you're admitting christianity has a sleazy past?

I never denied it. Every faction of humanity has a sleazy past. Your mistake, as is many others and one I made as well was the belief that God is a benevolent God the coddles and shields his children from sin and harm and bestows upon them all blessings, protection and good. God himself proclaimed he is a jealous and vengeful God. He let it be known what is wanted of us and what is expected but abiding by that or not is all on us individually.

As far as any organized religion, well it is neither any better or worse than the humans that organize it or the society in which they live.
