You ask a very good question. I wait in anticipation for the answer.
The answer had to be the Big Stick. That is always what it comes down to. As soon as Religion loses hellthreat or some kind of 'punishment' it loses the only weapon it has.
Why must anyone of us do anything? none of us asked to be born. The deal starts raw from the git go.
It seems we have the unique ability to question such things. Other life seems to proceed without such bothersome curiosity. I posit that our uniqueness suggests we have the responsibility to determine what our life will be and what it will accomplish. We who believe in God, seek to know what God might have intended for us to BECOME. Our conclusions about that determine what we should do or not do to be successful at it. Those who do not believe in God, just live their lives according to their interests and desires accepting whatever they become as a result.
Mystic, don't you dare to foist your prejudices onto us. We will say what our aims, objectives and aspirations are - not you.
Give it rest, Arq! Take a deep breath and calm down. What about this got under your skirt? "Those who do not believe in God, just live their lives according to their interests and desires accepting whatever they become as a result." Do you NOT live your life according to your interests and desires?
Mystic, you always project your own faults onto others. Nothing got under my longyi. I am telling you not to foist your prejudices on us. It is a friendly warning. If you don't know what that is, look in a dictionary. As to what's wrong with what you said, it assumes that there is no motive in our lives but self -interest. Only the God believer can have concern for others, right? How dare you.
On the other hand you could argue that this can be read as 'those who do not believe in a god live their lives according to human desires and aspiration and not to ..their own desires and aspirations given a spurious significance by being passed off as the desires of a god. You could say that you meant that.
One of the things that many people cannot get their head around, is a punishment that lasts FOREVER.
LOL!!! sorry, but an invisible santa claus doesn't scare me in the least, the bible was written by a bunch of naive goat herders who claimed to have all the answers to life and love, yet, they didn't even know where the sun WENT at night!!!
