A friend posted an invitation on social media for those who don't have family with whom to spend Thanksgiving. Everyone's replying that they'll be over after they finish Thanksgiving dinner with their families, or could the friend offer it another day because they're busy with their families that day?

Uh...

Maybe the concept is just inconceivable to most people... Or something!
Or people don't read! I'm finding that to be the case very often lately.

Hazel? I don't care for that name at all. I don't remember the t.v. show but I know that hazel is the name for a nut!

otterhere, I think your comment "Maybe the concept is just inconceivable to most people... Or something!" is insightful!

Giesela, I think your comment "Its almost like the idea of being alone is so incomprehensibly awful that people don't let it into their consciousness. Well you must have someone. Or they secretely wish they had more time alone." is insightful too.

I would also testify that it's not all that bad! not optimal, but just one of life's circumstances.

It's somewhat similar to married people not being able to conceive of life without their spouse, and fearing it greatly, but then when the spouse is gone, they find that they can approach their new life circumstance fairly well.

this (your) (Aery11) post made me sad, for two reasons: my elderly mother far far away trying to live on her own, and there is no fun in it at all.
On the other hand, I am approaching sixties, and don't see any fun it either, in this cold hearted society.
I wish you long healthy life in which you'll have some happiness seeing every new day and breathing the air on your own without respiratory aids.

Regina14----you are not paranoid. Those things can happen, those you're worried about. Don't give too much real info about you, unless you go through private inbox privately messaging back and forth and even then don't give much of your personal info.
Bad People do put a lot combinations from different websites and yes they can try and do harm. If you have a phone, register it with your nearest police department or nearest village/city hall department that may be of some needed lawful assistance.
I wish I can assure you're safe on FB, but my sister's (over 50) profile got hacked once at least so far, and the relation she was getting in and falling in love, was totally fake. I don't know and only hope her account isn't cleaned.
Call local library and see if they have any service that is of benefits to "elderly orphans"

Ha, there's an old Tin Pan Alley tune from the twenties called Which Hazel, a guy who loves two girls, both named Hazel.
