I'm trying to plan a surprise trip to Providence for me and my boyfriend.
I haven't been to Providence in 5 years and even then I was staying with my friend at Providence College and didn't really like the area.
Anyway, what's a good area to look for a hotel in? We live in NYC so will be taking a bus and won't have a car obviously. Would like to be within walking distance of some restaurants/bars and anything else that is fun to see in the city but doesn't necessarily have to be considered a "tourist attraction"- hopefully something not too expensive as well. I would prefer to stay in an area that isn't super touristy if possible.
You've got some choices, depending on when you're travelling and how long you're staying. The least expensive chain hotels are going to be, for the most part, on Post Rd. near the airport in Warwick, but that's not really going to put you in the city. But if you're on a budget, you'll spend less than $100/night.
You might want to check out Hotel Dolce Villa. It is on Federal Hill which would make for a fun vacation. There are busses that will take you into downtown, or you can even walk if you're in any semblance of shape. That'll run you about $120-$140/night.
If you want to stay right downtown, I always recommend Hotel Providence. I've stayed there many times. It will run you about $160-$200/night. I love the location!
In the just under $200/night range also, you can look at the Hilton, Marriott, Omni and Renaissance, all downtown.
For just over $200/night, you can stay at the Biltmore, also right downtown.
Can't really go wrong with any of these, as far as location goes.
