To me there are just too many trolls...who don't even live here. Still loving R.I. though. Even though we can't do it here.

I was reading in the New Yorker that Frank Sinatra would be 100 years old this month, had he lived, of course. Thank God for Tony Bennett, who roars on. Has Bennett ever performed in RI -- anyone know?

The last time I saw Tony Bennett was at Mohegan Sun, and it, unfortunately, was not good. This was 3 or 4 years ago, and I ended up leaving partway through. He may have been sick, or it may have been an off night, but it was just really, really bad. I've heard his tour with Lady Gaga was very good, however. I missed it when he was here last at Mandalay Bay.

I'm fortunate now to live in a place with 5 different "Rat Pack" shows nightly around town. Some of them are REALLY good, some are pretty atrocious.

Can't do what there?

It looks like I'll be headed back for a visit in 13 months for a convention at the RICC. It'll be nice to stroll the old streets again. Mediterraneo, here I come!

Sinatra was 79 at his last performance and as I recall the reviews, he was awful. Bennett is 89, and he did decent recordings three years ago.

The thing about Bennett is he, like the great Quincy Jones, adapted and evolved. But I fear we are going OT. What WAS the topic, anyway? Oh! I remember now -- how awful Rhode Island is compared to ___.

My wife's first visit to Providence, five years before I met her, was on the day Sinatra died. She was passing through with a friend on the way to somewhere. They had dinner on the Hill, and the restaurant was blasting Sinatra nonstop. People were crying. It was the memory of that day that inspired her to consider moving here years later.

Uh, that's a great damned story -- how about just a little more detail? Flesh it out if you will because it's so endearing, and intriguing.

I'm 100% Italian-American, and opera and Sinatra ruled, and I always loved him, but especially when he moved into Brazilian stuff, much as the sainted, blessed Sarah Vaughan did in her later years. I mean, he was a pig, true, but aren't all men?

This may seem OT, but CaseyB, I would say that the influence and cultural heritage of Italian-Americans in PVD validates its being on this forum. TKU.

Wow, very surprised to learn that in your post #10 A/Boy. He was on one of the talk shows on television last year saying he was not going to tour anymore.

Always revealing that you actually take the time for such in depth 'research' in a pointed attempt to be snarky.

It is healthy to love the state in which you reside, or have resided. Preach on! I'm a "silver lining" kinda guy. I've seen posts about little Rhody that remind me that it wasn't always dark and gloomy. Little tidbits about neighborhoods, restaurants, etc, that I either didn't know, or knew very well and makes me wax nostalgic.

Lots of good and lots of bad about every state in the Union. Glad you found your happy in RI!

That should be a reason to post *more*, not less - dilute the trolling!
