Haha (this is not meant to offend any race nor assumption that all surfers, skaters and snow boarders smoke MJ. )
I've had good experiences when visiting Colorado and to the guy asking who I date, not that it's any of your business I have dated interracially but also have dated black women too.

This is a personal question that I didn't have the nerve to ask, but it is relevant. There was a black man on the Texas forum who started up a thread complaining about how Asian and Hispanic women didn't seem interested in black men in his part of Texas. At the same time, he had no interest in dating white or black women. If he has his preferences, then he should accept that other people have their preferences. I'm not saying this is true of the OP, but there are people who complain about the treatment they receive from other ethnic groups while not wanting to associate with or date the people of their own ethnic group. It's hypocritical.

That's EXACTLY my point! Thank you.

I think people need to be more specific when they say urban core. I spent most of my childhood on the near north side (inside and just outside 410) where the population was/is 80-90% Hispanic. I much prefer the northeast side, which just happens to be the most ethnically diverse area of San Antonio.

I don't think loop-area is considered Urban Core by anyone.

While the definition varies by whom you speak to, it'd include the area bounded by the 4 hwys: Hwy 90 to the South, I-10 to the west, I-35 to the north, I-37 to the east (that makes a rectangle around downtown).

Some expand it north a bit to the Pearl, and some as far as Hildebrand/Broadway (tho IMO, that is stretching it). Some would expand it east to the near East Side (alamodome, Dignowity Hill). But not as far as 410 or even just inside. That's definitely suburban.

The "urban core" isn't hugely diverse ethnically, but it does tend to have a variety of people.

As for not fitting in, works for some, not for others, but for me it helped a lot to move to Southtown, that's where I started meeting more people. It did take well over a year before I started making friendships beyond acquaintances.

I've been strongly considering moving to Colorado.

At one point I considered Austin, but it's incredibly pseudo liberal.
No, if you feel isolated in SA, you will definitely feel isolated in Austin. I have a close relative that lives there and he complains all the time about dating there and he has heard so often the phrase "I don't date black guys". Of course, you should move to where you like.

I know how you feel though. I grew up in a country area outside of SA and the only black family in a neighborhood. I like SA for many things, but I grew up very racially aware. If you want to stay in Texas, I'd look at Houston. It's big and very diverse. I'm not a fan of the big TX cities so I looked out of the state. There are so many more places in the rest of the country you'd be okay in. Don't give up!

Houston does sound like a better pick for you. I am one of the 3 Ms that should fit right in here but I never have and I've been here for 10 years. I am moving back to Austin at the end of July and can't wait! San Antonio isn't for everyone no matter what the defenders say. Good luck and I wish you well!
