It ran from Harry Wurzbach to I-35. Not far off Harry W. down this road was a little field I think.
Satx....go to his Texas SA link and click on the NE San Antonio section. There were two airfields in that area.....he's got great info on both of them. It may have been Dodd....but the maps should tell you.

Yeah! Dodd field sounds correct. Dashiel the road maybe. Wow! They held 3,500 WWII pow's there at one time. They moved a quonset hut hangar to Wilson Street (Jefferson area) in 30's? For what? Garage maybe? Surely it's long gone.

Did you see the new terminal improvements around the control tower?

Yes, I did. I went upstairs and all around. I am afraid that the old (& old style) cafe is going to be totally modernized. I know it needed a facelift, but it had the look and feel of long ago.... because it was. Hate to see that ambiance painted and sheetrocked away. The interior of old was so tiny... I can only imagine the small flocks of passengers crowding out of their to get on some DC 3 clipper.

There really wasn't much to the old coffee shop. They let me go up the tiny stairway into the control tower back in the 60's Hey Joe you saw the old phone book right? Was Western Auto across the street same side as Winn's. Or was that the Red and White?

Come to think of it, I guess a large airport was not really all that needed back then. Why take a bumpy airsick/dangerous ride when virtually everyone rode the Southern Pacific Sunset Limited? THAT is a mode of transportation that I would love to see revived to it's full glory. Rode a passenger train twice in the mid fifties (Dad was a railroad man so we got a huge discount) and that was a neat, neat experience.

The Winn's and Western Auto were on the east side of Flores. Howell's Red and White was on the west side just south of Tennessee.

My much, much, much older sister said that LLoyd's barber shop was also over there, but then moved into the new strip center on Pleasanton Rd. where you and I got our haircuts.

I only remember Lloyd's in Sprott's strip. There was a little barber shop where you say Red & White was. Same bldg I mean , with the cleaners and shoe repair shop in my day. I always thought that had been a Western Auto. Do you know what was between the Western Auto & Winn's??
