If it reduces the time spent in security lines at the airport, I don't have a problem with it. People who don't have anything dangerous hidden on their person shouldn't object either.

After having a pat-down search (required on every passenger to the US) at Frankfurt airport a few years ago (required by the US -NOT Germany, which they emphasized about a million times) that bordered on a violation of my person, I'd prefer someone to be able to see through my clothes.

It was AWFUL. And I'm not a particularly sensitive individual about such matters, but this was over the top.

However, I'm not sure it'll make that much difference. Just like the x-ray machines, the success of it is dependent upon the user. We flew somewhere recently and realized, after we arrived, that DH had a Swiss Army knife in his bag. it had been through multiple xrays...

Yeah, I don't have a problem with it either. They may get a few smiles after seeing me

I had that same problem in Frankfurt. I got pulled aside and they put me in another room.. computer's seem much friendlier.

I didn't have anything suspicious either ... it was just random.

This particular flight it wasn't random, it was 100%. Every single person had to be body-searched. It was June '04. I can't remember what prompted it now.

The almost-funny-but-not-quite thing were the big signs everywhere, saying something like "Due to requirements of the President of the USA, every person boarding a flight to the US will be subject to a body search. Frankfurt Airport regrets any inconvenience" (not exact wording, but close). It might as well have said "WE don't want to do this. Blame YOUR government!" at least that was the attitude of some of the guards....others seemed to enjoy it a bit too much.

I went to Italy in July 06, had a blast. I was the odd one out of the group for some reason...
