Aren't they supposed to be licensed - whether they are contracted by independent ADT dealers or not?
Even if you are truly interested in their business, you don't have to immediately accept them as legit. Take their card, tell them you can't talk now then look them up or call and set up an appointment, etc. Explain that you are concerned about their legitimacy and want to make a few calls before you answer any of their questions. If they are really in the "home security" business, they should totally get it! If they are offended or don't comply...well, they won't be getting my business one way or the other!

It's too bad we have to be so cautious, but it is what it is!

I have no issue with the sign thing. More power to you. I meant I can't believe he had the nerve to ask!!

there's a good reason why he asked... because if you said no I don't have an alarm but no, it's ok I don't want one, then your house would most probably be slated to be robbed..

Also, I spoke to some neighbors. Some have signs for their alarm companies and the "salesman" flat out asked if it was just a sign, or actually hooked up. The nerve!!

I experienced the same thing, however when the salesman/robber asked me for my alarm Info. I told him who ever attempts to break in, they'll come in, but I guarantee they going to be rolled out! he freaked out and said he just wanted to make shure it was properly connected.

We put up a Beware of Dog and No Solicitor sign after growing tired of the door to door people. If they come to the door anyway, I yell through the door for them to read the sign and get the he** out of my yard before I call the law. Works well!

Why call the law when you can come out with a bucket of water to scare them off your property!

I do that with Jehovan Witnesses some times I answer the door in boxers (I know its them knocking and they come early in the AM) and they still have the nerve to tell me to get decent! LOL

Ain't that something?? And they show up in droves, all well dressed with briefcases and everything. We can see them working the houses on the street. I haven't tried it yet, but maybe I'll flirt with them a bit and see if I can make them uncomfortable...

We have an alarm on our place, but it's not monitored. As long as it wakes me up, we're good. I'm a decent shot!
