Seems everyone is competing for the limited resources spots slots reservations etc. and maybe the rat race of SoCal turns people that way to be less considerate in order to get ahold of one a resource reservation etc. This is also the wealthiest areas I’ve lived, and to be honest most of my observations are not from working class people. I will say in comparison to other places the service at restaurants, businesses etc. is better than other places I’ve lived. I think that’s from the demographic of the working class here as they are very hard working.
When I first moved here in 2003. I heard someone say “San Diego is like Midwest friendly”. I couldn’t get an actual grasp on values because I met so many people within five years that came and went on to other places.

And I tell visitors don’t judge us by our highways. Like most places we have a collection of idiots too that have learned the laws of the highways in different countries and jurisdictions.

But I have never met so many people that have been taken advantage of…and that don’t speak up when they get ripped off. I travel a lot for work. People here don’t complain enough aren’t direct enough accept substandard service and allow people to walk all over them. Maybe the weather makes people happy and carefree and again “no worries”. Maybe I’m tuned out and self absorbed and don’t pay attention enough. My wife (a New Yorker)pointed that out to me (not the self absorbed part lol) Maybe it’s rude at times but very direct and matter of fact and lots of folks misconstrue that.

Now I will say maybe it’s small townliving or maybe small town Ohio where I grew up…being one of them (which is important) gives you privileges…my car won’t start the neighbor helps you, you are changing a flat people stop…your neighbor whose family has been there for generations knows more about you maybe than you care for them to actually know…but if you have a crisis those folks are generally there for you. I’m sure there are pockets like that here but I’ve noticed it as a rule in those other places.

I've found people in SoCal generally speaking more chill and friendlier than on the East Coast. But it's hard to generalize especially in a very balkanized place like California with a huge number of subcultures and ethnic enclaves.

Ya, we've been lucky to live near the beach and have neighbors like this. We do have some new ones that the only time you see is them pulling into the garage. Why even have a yard if you don't use it. Just get a condo.
