Oh yeah, USMC brings up a good point. Why the heck do San Franciscan's hate the military and ban ROTC is schools? This is far beyond gay rights. This seems straight anti-military.

We don't hate the military, that's just a conservative-media lie/myth/exaggeration, or whatever you want to call it. As I already stated, we host a Fleet Week and the Blue Angels every year, and everyone is MORE than welcoming to them... I love seeing all the handsome men in uniforms, quite honestly. As for banning the ROTC, I don't know much about it, but assume that's to keep government-sponsored groups out of schools - not the military specifically. Recruiters do visit the public schools occasionally, as I've seen during my work-related visits to them.

Default BOR's a bore, but maybe onto something...

I'm not much of a Bill O'Reilly fan. He displays no philosophical consistency, but plenty of arrogance and ego...

That being said, however, I do believe there's something about "San Francisco values" that's antithetical to what's made America great.

I've been to S.F. and found the place very scenic, physically beautiful, and charming. As big cities go, it's almost like a giant adult playground. Oh, but how surface looks are deceiving...

Rampant immorality...self-gratification...self-indulgence...materialism...rejection of God, the Bible, and the traditional family structure...loathing of the military that protects us...support of socialism & the welfare state...embracing anything weird, bizarre and anti-American...living for the present, never caring about the future...the whole hippie "gotta be me!" culture...disdain and condescension toward us "flyover" (Heartland) folks who don't share their beliefs...

Whenever I think of San Francisco, all these things come to mind!

It's sad really, that such a beautiful place is so stained with human selfishness, vanity, and overweening pride.

Anti Military, No. Its more of a statement against the Military's Commander-in-Chief.

The US Military of late has been used as an instrument to implement an IMMORAL agenda in the middle east. Or do you think that everything this administration has done is just peachy keen? Wouldnt surprise me one bit.

Well,
in this part of the country, we think its a disgrace what this man has done and the US Military no longer represents us, but rather the whims of a maniac.

The attack against dissent waged on anyone who disagrees with the President by conservatives is anti-american to its core.

human selfishness
Caring about the environment to a point where you fight vociferously to protect water, land, nature and animals , wanting to help the poor and downtrodden by implementing programs that look out for them, wanting to implement universal health care, taking in people rejected by their own families and allowing them to thrive and succeed. Embracing all newcomers regardless of their legal status and putting your money where your mouth is on all issues that are important to us.

None of this is selfish at all and these are all hallmarks of San Francisco.

Excuse me, but dont you live in SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA? A place known for artificial people who live beyond their means to project a certain image.

Amen, and well put! The sentence I bolded above is one I feel is particularly important, and what makes SF such a great city. In my humble opinion, it is more gracious, caring and unselfish to accept those who are rejected in other places... we welcome people who aren't welcomed in other states/cities, and for that I think we deserve some credit. Who are the real heathens - those who accept and tolerate anyone "different," or those who would happily dismiss them as sub-human??

And to LancasterNative - we aren't "against" God and religion, we just have a different idea of religious tolerance and diversity. There are hundreds (thousands?) of churches, temples & mosques in the Bay Area, representing a HUGE variety of denominations and beliefs. I'm sorry if they don't all follow your idea of "religious morality," but that certainly doesn't make us anti-religion or anti-American. People come in all types, and this is one place where just about anyone can find their niche.

I lived in SF and knew plenty of conservatives. People forget that it has a strong financial district full of high paid bankers/lawyers. There are also a lot of liberals, but it is so expensive that although many have liberal views it is very different politically compared to other "liberal" cities that are largely african american. For outsiders who haven't lived there I can tell you that SF isn't what people think it is- anyone who has lived there can attest to the high number of trust fund youth, high paid professionals, old money wealth, and high paid entrepueners. There is also a large gay population. The government is largely inept.

Oh Please! Keep it real, at least. As a librarian who can see a fact from a mile away, as you stated about yourself, then you can surely Google some info on the ROTC and SF. This made national news. SF doesn't want the ROTC in it's school because of the Pentagon's "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy. The school board said the policy is "unjust, indefensible, unintelligent, and a state-sanctioned act of homophobia." So just how is SF so accepting of anyone and everyone if they say no to the ROTC. Some 1,700 students want it, support it....why the ban? Is that fair? No, it isn't. Saying SF is military friendly because of Fleet Week and the Blue Angels is, well, pitiful..

Go San Francisco! I don't think ROTC or the Boy Scouts should be allowed to use public property to host meetings/recruitment events until they change their policies of discrimination against homosexuals.
