Most of those here, merely cite their disappointment with the city's flaws.
Thank you for your excellent observations and mature post

The entire Bay Area is overrated. It's nothing but cliquey, self righteous, passive-aggressive, insular, insecure, close minded people who believe they're so open minded and liberal.
Dating out here is like trying to jump through hoops of fire that are moving up and down and soaked in gasoline. You can thank the Tech companies for creating such an imbalance in the Male to Female ratio.
Unless you're the "cultural fit"(cliquey, self righteous, passive-aggressive, insular, insecure, close minded), you're going to have a very hard time here. Inside and outside of work. Back to the East I go.

Interesting, I sense the same reserved behavior from girls up in Seattle. I'm currently in Southrn California for the weekend and girls here are so much more flirty and forward.

Dating is easy in the bay area... if you are not in the tech industry.

Bartenders, personal trainers, doctors, lawyers, artists, etc. are all doing fine.

Just means it wasn't a fit for you... no harm, no foul.

The Bay Area is vast and varied...

I rented an in-law apartment off Judah from 1982-85 for $210 a month.

My temp job paid $11 an hour and I had no problem making ends meet or saving money.

Because if you've got the money you can rent my 3 bed/2bath two story home in the Sunset near Muni for $3800-4000 a month with no problem. My current renters as a couple earn over $250,000 a year. The Sunset is safe, you can walk home late at night from public transportation or park your car on the street without worry.

On the other hand if you've got nothing and on the street the City has plenty to offer in terms of services.

It's everyone else that has a hard time. Sure, it's great to be 25 and living the hipster scene with three roommates but that gets old as time goes by.

I grew up in SF during the 60's and 70's. The vibe is very different today. Just riding the Muni you can feel the tension. It's become an ugly city unless you've got a lot of money.

In 1982 I was working in a Union Machine shop at 11.50 an hour and rented a 3 bedroom single family home in Oakland for $450 a month... my water bill was $22 a month.

Thirty years later that home is rented for $1500 a month... and the water bill is $90 a month...

As a Bay Area native, I agree to this. I have said this for years.

So, do you tell the ladies out East " I struck out trying to get a date out in the Bay Area so...here I am!"

Does that work much? Sort of impressive, given the size of the "entire Bay Area".
