When Lloyd McLendon managed the Pirates, they were a terrible team. He inherited that team. I don't know if he's a good manager or not. Last year people were proclaiming him a genius managing the bullpen. This year not so much as the bullpen's fallen apart. All in all, Zdurencik has made far more bad moves than good moves, and his his high draft picks have not panned out. And selling the team might not be such a bad move, as it would get rid of Howard Lincoln.

I want to believe, I just can't anymore. The Boston series crushed any hope.

According to the tweets of The Seattle Times' Ryan Divish, McLendon requested the release of Fernando Rodney over a month ago, and the request was denied by Zdurencik.

Makes sense, he's still owed a lot of money. That sentence sure is infuriating, though.

Look at the M's roster then look at their record. I agree it'd be nice to see Lincoln disappear.

FRE is a sunk cost. Nothing to be gained by keeping him around. Let him go and allow someone else to get some late innings work in low leverage situations at the major league level. Basically a month left to get a few players some development opportunities. OTOH, who would those players be? Farm system is not exactly ripe with players looking to step up and we really don't even have any AAAA players. How likely is Nintendo to sell? Hard to say; never been any inklings of these conversations taking place. Unfortunately, another change is due, but it needs to be further at the top and to put in place those with the desire to win. It is possible to run this as a business, with people in seats, and still having winning as a top priority. They are averaging just under 30k per game this season - which is astonishing given their performance. The Astros, in a much larger metro area, are averaging about 26k per game and they've led pretty much from the start. Put a team that can, at the very least, sniff the playoffs in September and there will be plenty of revenue coming in.

Attendance for many teams seems to be related to how they did the previous season. So watch the Mariners attendance drop next year.

I'll be curious if the death of Satoru Iwata earlier this year portends some changes in the M's front office in the off-season. Like a lot of folks, I believe Lincoln and Z have worn out their welcome. That said, I do like McClendon and think he deserves a little more time to straighten things out particularly if the front office is cleared out, but in professional sports it seldom works out that way.

Didn't work out that way tonight. Another late inning blow-up. No bullpen whatsoever. Geez. And McClendon trying to pull a Pinnella, without the style, but with the same result...ejected.
