No it's not remotely the same. These were US citizens of Japanese ancestry that were interred. Detention of foreign parties illegally crossing the border is normal judicial practice in many countries. Personally I think they should just be escorted back post haste.

There is a lot of people not from the far right that see these illegal aliens for what they are.
Let’s just promptly process them back to where they came.

Locking up American citizens because of their heritage is not even close.

I have toured an internment camp before.
There is one on Angel Island in San Francisco Bay.
It’s a sad place.

Pretty similar. We lock up minors at the border who had no choice whether to come here or not. We separate them from their families for weeks or months.

We deport parents who've lived here for 20, 30 years and have kids here.

We deport people who came here as minors but have been here their entire lives.

We also fund the bombing of tons of innocent people all around the world.

The "lock up Japanese Americans" mindset did not exist in a vacuum. It is a continuum of thought and blatant disregard for the humanity of other people. It's what this country was founded on (genocide of Native Americans and enslavement of Africans and African Americans) and has continued through to this day.

It's important to realize our history and connect it to our present; otherwise, we will continue making the same mistakes. That's my point.

I don't know where illegals are getting locked up. Seems to me they have more freedom than Americans. They get free plane rides in the dead of night to many US cities, no jabs required, no ID required, no criminal background check. They are let loose and never seen again. Meanwhile the citizens and mayors of those cities struggle to cope.

Japanese internment: locking up people who belong here, by means of emergency powers.

Treatment of illegals: deporting people who don't belong here, by means of standard legal mechanisms.

Polar opposites. Yes the circumstances can be sad at times, because the countries they came from are unsuccessful. Still, it's their home, not ours. It's up to them to fix it.

It's all about treating a set of people as "others" so that we care less about how they are treated. These were all immigrants. Even legal immigrants have issues with being detained and harassed by ICE, and there is so little recourse available.

That's just human nature and tribalism, unfortunately.

Agree with you on this. As a US citizen of color, one of my observations has been the loss of individuality to broad stroke generalization.

An american of european/ white descent is judged at an individual level; the person can be an artist, computer programmer, singer, entrepreneur, football player, liberal, ultra right, astronaut, criminal, religious, christian, spiritual-- so on and so forth. When someone does a bad a thing like mass shooting, fraud or embezzlement, only that person is blamed.

Rest of the communities live in a world of broad stereotypes-- for example, all african americans must be into rap/ hip-hop and basketaball, all Indians are IT professionals/ doctors or hispanics must only be into yard work. One terrorist does something, then the entire muslim community of millions is flagged for special security checks at airports etc. If a person of south asian descent like Kshama Swant gets into left wing politics, then the next question is around if all the Indian community in Seattle is supporting her or not.

This loss of individual identity seems minor, but it builds up over time. At work, I was constantly pushed towards tech positions by managers, since they already made their mind that a brown person must be into such areas-- even though I liked working on strategic analysis. Many people assume that I love curries and rice, even though my favorite dishes are pasta and sushi, or that I prefer hot sunny weather, whereas I actually enjoy the Seattle rain and gloom. My wife who loves skiing and listening to country music, faces similar issues. Just like european americans, every one of us is unique in our own ways.

The Japanese internment camp happened due to such labelling of an entire community, after Pearl Harbor, it was easier to think of all of them as one group of "traitors".

AND that has happened and WILL continue to happen in the future until WE Americans call the Elites out on it.

The Japanese interment camps were just a device to confiscate Japanese property illegally. FDR did it.

The Elites have had a long history of doing that starting with the native Indians, the immigrant Chinese, Blacks in the south and a whole host of other ethnic and racial groups.

The problem is STILL HERE today...... As AOC, her squad and the Democrats have said...."it is all about the Benjamins".

I really feel sorry for the JEWS.....thousand of years of oppression to steal the fruits of their labors.... in Germany, France, Russia, Poland, and on and on it goes.

Now it is moving to America.

AND with AOC and the Democrats here we go again....

It's really not that different anywhere else. There is racism and discrimination everywhere you go.
