"Oust Seattle Enemy Aliens” read the _Seattle Star_’s front-page headline on February 16th, 1942. It was just over two months since the surprise attack on Pearl Harbor and the outbreak of war with Japan, and local sentiment ran high against local Japanese and Japanese-American residents. The Seattle Star, a popular daily newspaper published from 1889-1947, provides an excellent window into the question of how such strong anti-Japanese sentiment arose in the months between the attack on Pearl Harbor and the issue of Executive Order 9066, which established the federal wartime internment camps. This essay examines the Seattle Star from December 1941 through February 1942, focusing on the Star’s reaction to key events such as the bombing of Pearl Harbor and the issue of Executive Order 9066 and, in particular, on the paper’s hostile and sometimes racist portrayal of native Japanese and Japanese-Americans, especially after the paper was sold in January 1942. By analyzing letters to the editor during these months, this approach also allows us to discover the local non-Japanese population’s views on the war and the idea of internment."

Internment of American citizens of Japanese ancestry was a pathetic chapter in the country’s history

Thatguy, if you haven't been, The Wing Luke Museum in the International District in Seattle does a very good (and sad) job of chronicling this time. It's really worth a visit, not to mention haunting exhibits on the Khmer Rouge Cambodian genocide, Vietnam and Korean Wars and the flow of people from those places to Seattle.

Yes, it happened here. And it happened in Canada.

Thankfully, we have grown.

Looks like it will happen again, only Americans who have natural immunity to Covid or who refuse the jab for different reasons will be imprisoned against their will.

According to the resolution, health officers are required to produce documentation showing that residents subject to involuntarily confinement in quarantine facilities have denied them Medical examinations, tests, treatment, counseling, vaccinations, sterilisation of persons, animals, isolation, and quarantine, following which houses must be inspected and the premises should be closed after they are vaccinated, according to the resolution.

In addition to allowing health officers to engage law enforcement to assist in the arrest of Washington residents who are not complying with the law, the amended law also provides for jail time for violators of the law.

Japanese American internment and our treatment of our African Americans were black eyes on our society.
Both situations were handled by the SCOTUS.

There is currently a member of the court tossing out misinformation.
One has to question if this member has malice or ignorance.

It is happening again, but not to wingnut anti-Vaxxers, but rather to Central and South Americans who are undocumented in the US or trying to cross the border.

Outside of Cody, WY there is Heart Mountain Interpretive Center. The old Japanese internment camp.

It's hard to imagine the mindset of the day that confined Americans. I highly encourage a visit if you are in the area.

Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet

My kids had to read it for school, but I love historical fiction so I read it too.
