Old Winn Dixie on Liberty ? Where is was it located on Liberty ?

I read that Florence is getting a Hyatt downtown also. Looks like they are moving into smaller downtown markets now with projects in both Sumter and Florence
The Hampton street apartments were torn down years ago. I absolutely loved the designed of those apartments. The were unique and different from anything in Sumter today, and reminded me of row houses. I couldn't believe they tore down those apartments, and today just an empty lot is still there.

Looks like Sumter is getting a few hotels up on Boad Street.. Marriott Courtyard and a brand of the Hilton. I hope that doesn't impact the Hyatt downtown since I think that it will be Sumters premier hotel given the fact that it is downtown

Sumter has torn down quite a few "landmarks" that if they were around today would likely be preserved given the currently revitalization efforts. There was the city's lone high rise at Liberty and Main that was torn down where the swan fountain plaza is located on the NE corner, the old train station at the foot of S. Harvin Street to name a few.

I wonder what happened to the YMCA supposed to be built next to Patriots park, sign still there. Orangeburg has a nice big one with a waterpark in front and they are building a second one in Santee.

The YMCA isn't happening. Well, not in that location. That location is too far out of town and too close to the more affluent neighborhoods. That runs counter to the mission of the organization.

The current location is ideal for it's mission. It is central to the entire community. However they are maxed out on space. They can no longer expand.

Should be an interesting addition to downtown..though it appears to have stirred up the preservationists because of its design.....
