What is weather like in Spokane right now? I'd like to know about ice or snow on the ground, if it's cold, etc. Is it common for snow to come down pretty heavy there like over the period of a day or two?

I'm on the north side and it's about 35 degrees. Yesterday started with rain and turned to snow in the afternoon. There's about 1/2 inch on the ground and it's melting away. Who knows what will happen in the next day or so....

Why are you scared of ice?

Usually with one, you have the other.

yeah there's some ice in areas - when the rain freezes and the snow melts and the temperature hovers right around the 30-35 mark, you get ice.

...and yeah, it's fairly common for it to snow for a day or two...it's not like the Great Lakes by any means, but it'll snow.

If you're talking about ice like the ice storms back east or down south, Spokane has only had one event similar that I can think of in the last 40 years...had a fair ice storm back in the '90s. But, I'd never seen one until I was grown, left Spokane and moved down south...

But, if you're talking about the type of ice that comes with snow being on the ground, yeah, that's common.

Thanks skinem and Wendy. I'll try to keep a lookout for the temperature dropping.

I live in Colo. but keep tabs on Spokane to see if I would like to relocate there. Here are a couple of links that I use to do that.
WSDOT - Spokane Traffic Cameras
Weather Station History : Weather Underground
With traffic cams you actually see whether it is snowing or raining. You can also access TV stations and get their forecasts. So far this winter has been warmer and less snowy in Spokane than in Denver.

This winter is very different from the last two, much warmer. And yes, with snow there is ice (ALOT of it last year) but this year its been more rainy than anything. But the weather is getting colder so we'll see what the next few weeks bring..

Are Spokane winters similar to those in Salt Lake?
