The fact is St. Louis has an incredibly different past than those two cities. St. Louis was affected much more adversely with the manufacturing decline in this country. St. Louis has had it rough, but ballpark village will happen; I have faith.

I have my doubts about it happening too. I'm still waiting on the Kiel Opera House to get redone....as I remember it, wasn't that part of the deal in building the new Arena?

Also, how about the St. Louis Mall that was supposed to run from the old courthouse to the civil courts building? I saw the original model of it back in the day and it didn't have a "Gateway One" building screwing it up!

I love St. Louis and think that it's a great city, but we are our own worst enemy when we let the big boys like Civic Progress make all of the decisions!

Default RIP Ballpark Village

Centene not coming to Ballpark Village

Centene Corp.'s much touted move to Ballpark Village in downtown St. Louis is dead. RELATED LINK
TALK: Centene pulls out of Ballpark Village; is the project dead?

The Clayton-based company released a statement today stating, "Ballpark Village was unable to accommodate Centene's plans for our world headquarters, which we deeply regret and are disappointed to announce."

The statement coincided with the city releasing of documents requested under Sunshine Law by the Post-Dispatch related to Ballpark Village and Centene more than two months ago.

Centene did not say what the new location of its headquarters would be but left open the possibility that it may be outside the St. Louis region.

"We are currently resuming the evaluation of other potential options for the location of our corporate headquarters, both in and out of the region," the statement said.

That's a shame, though it hardly means the whole Ballpark Village is dead...

Could they at least turn it into a outdoor park or something until they get BPV going?
That thing is a big eyesore that would look totally cool if it were just fixed up a little so folks could tailgate.

I have to say I am not suprised, disappointed but not suprised.

Ballpark Village is coming, as it is mandated in the cardinals contract with the city.

Centene not coming is a huge disappointment, but is not damning the project.

Default Ballpark Village

Ballpark Village.

Something needs to be done, at least temporarily. The All-Star Game is in little over a year. Even if Ballpark Village doesn't do anything, we need something other than a pit and a muddy pond.

Ideas?

I would vote for laying some sod and letting folks tailgate on gamedays until they get their ducks in a row. Anything beats the eyesore that we have today.

I just fear that if that happens then it's the final nail in the ballpark village coffin. People will slowly forget what was supposed to be there in the first place.

I remember when there was first talk of Ballpark Village and my mom was rather cynical about the whole thing and wasn't convinced it'd actually happen. Back then I didn't understand- they say it'll happen, why wouldn't it? But she's been around a long time and seen some major disappointments, and now I'm, afraid she might have been right with this one all along.

Still got my fingers crossed tho...

There will be a cosmetic "band-aid" for the site, for the All-Star game. And it likely won't appease many. Whether or not actual construction will be going on along side, near the cosmetic band-aid remains to be seen. I for one am doubtful.
