it's not second guessing. how many hurricanes has FL seen and we have the same thing repeat every-time(say gas shortage) so I guess no one is listening to second-guessers and whiners. someone must be living in their paradise thankful for everything they have unless they are stranded on a highway with kids and family and wondering when they'll make it home.

The "gas shortage" was caused by state-wide hoarding and demands of evacuees. Tanker trucks had to negotiate the same traffic jammed highways to get product to gas stations. In many cases gas stations near interstates and U.S. routes sold out their supply and tanker trucks just could not get to their customers. Would you expect the state to set up pop-up gas stations along evacuation routes and have fuel flown in by helicopter? Of course neighboring states would need to do the same.

How many people hit the road with 1/2 a tank of gas because they didn't want to wait on line where they live and took a chance on getting gas along their routes?

Negative. The people across the street have had power since day 1. Others nearby got power after three days.

It's TECO incompetence at its finest.

Did you contact TECO, in a civil tone, and ask them what the problem may be?

I've been passing along your messages to TECO. They've told me that since you don't appreciate their efforts you are going to be the very last one they restore power to.

Second to last. I've arranged to have Corvette Carl as the very last. Sometime in October.

I believe CC is serviced by Duke.

Duke decided he didn't need power yet as all the bad weather and rain missed him once again. They are focused on those who were impacted.

Based on his previous messages, without power for a week he's already handled the situation so he may not need power at all.

I noted in this thread that some expected the utility to have trucks in place before the storm so that they could get to work on power restoration as soon as the storm is over. A few points.

1. How would TECO predetermine where where outages might occur.

2. How would TECO predetermine what type of equipment may be needed at a particular area. Transformers, poles, insulators, wire, other materials or perhaps a truck to pump out flooded underground and above ground areas.

3. If a driver takes a truck to a predetermined area how does he get back to the shop or home. Would the technician have to sleep in the truck while the storm rages, wake up, wait for the rest of the crew to arrive and start, assess the situation an go to work?

4. How would TECO staff get to their equipment to begin repairs. Would technicians just drive over to the predetermined location of a truck, park their personal vehicles, assess the problem and just go about performing the repair. When they are ready to go to another place to work wouldn't they need to go back to where they started, leave the truck there and go home. The next day would they go back to where they left the truck, leave their personal vehicles and go to another area since the place they left the truck was repaired the day before and then, leave the truck and go home and the next day resume the procedure.

5. How would TECO get the truck back to the shop when the work is done.

6. How would the technicians get materials when more were needed.

7. Who would provide security to the trucks left at the predetermined sites.

Those would be a few of the problems TECO would need to solve.

Or TECO inspectors could go out, assess what work is needed, have the TECO employees all go to their shops, get their trucks with necessary equipment to do the jobs they are assigned and go directly where work needs to be done, move from assignment to assignment, return to the shop, replenish supplies and go home repeating the process the next day.

Think about it

Day 7 of no power in South Tampa. Thanks for all of your "hard work" TECO! Especially after such a "devastatingly strong" storm! These "heroes" are doing an "amazing job."

By the way the city of Havana managed to restore power after four days
And Irma at Cat 5 strength.

At this rate even the commies are beating us on infrastructure!
As Havana is the capital of Cuba, a dictatorship, no surprise is it? Havana is also their primary port and welcome point for tourist. So no surprise if what you say is true.

Meanwhile, not much of paradise for those in other areas...

One Week after Irma, Cuban Damage Increasingly Alarming

Quote:
CARE’s local partners have been deployed across the affected regions and are currently assessing the impact of Hurricane Irma. CARE’s teams report there still remain communities completely shut off and there are concerns power may not be restored for weeks.
and

Quote:
The UN reports that 3.1 million people are without water service.
That's more than a quarter of Cuba's population without water.

I'm sure those in Cuba in these still affected areas would be happy to exchange places with you.
