Seriously, it's a job, that's their job to fix power lines. That guy could have taken the day off it's his choice. There is this huge backlash against of culture but how about the need to call people who are just doing their jobs heros.

Greetings from Day 6 of living in No Power Land.

Neighbors report that some have had power restored, and it's gone out again 6 hours later due to shoddy repair work by TECO's "heroes."

Lesson: If you've had power restored, don't think you will necessarily keep it.

For comparison, when Charley hit Florida the OE reported there was a high of 1.4 million without power. More than 9 million (more than half of Florida) from Irma.

Should the US put power lines underground?
As far as storm surge, underground lines can be pressurized, this has been the norm for telecom lines for over 50 years when they are underground. The issue in almost all of Florida and south georgia was not storm surge but high winds knocking trees down. This comes down to profits for utilities.

There's been literally no breeze at all. Slept in my car again last night.

You can probably find generators for a decent price now or even borrow from a friend since a lot of people have power restored.
You can buy a window unit A/C for around $100, at least you'll be comfortable.

I'm the type person that if I have a problem w/ something then I will do something about it, I know it sucks being without power but complaining about it doesn't do anything (unless you know somebody that works for the power company).

At least be thankful you have a dry place to lay your head at night, a lot of folks don't.

awesome news!!!! I would expect nothing less from them!!!! so "thankful" and "grateful" for their "heroic" efforts!!!! They are "working so hard"!!!!!!

lucky for me, i have a work trip coming up in a few days. so i get to get on an airplane and leave you all to watch all of this "heroic", "hard work" and "amazing job" by TECO all on your own!!!!

maybe they will do an extra special job and restore my power around Thanksgiving.

which was my original prediction anyway!

When you don't have power, and it's 92 degrees and raining cats and dogs, there is no "dry" place to lay your head, but thanks for the suggestion.

No generators, fans or AC units within a 10 mile radius of me.

It's gonna be OK. Leaving town soon.
