Texas is cheap, the people are nice, the economy is good, and I'm quite fond of the food. But the trade off is that, it's not nearly as pretty as California and the climate is extreme. Life here is extremely comfortable.

Relating to the original question, I hate the politics here. However, that's such a tiny part of my existence that I don't ever really think about it.
Thanks.

Agree on all points
Id go with texas, for all those reasons...unless i got loaded!

The idea that LBJ would be someone of whom Texans should be ashamed just shows how extremely right-wing the political culture in Texas has become. I don't think LBJ was a particularly nice person but he was a great politician and a great American who did great things for the American people, including civil rights and voting rights legislation, Medicare, the War on Poverty programs (sadly scuttled by his misguided insistence on waging a war in Vietnam and then by his successors), Head Start, so many other programs. Some of his motivation may have been cynical and opportunistic, but he accomplished great things for America and would have accomplished so much more had it not been for his greatly mistaken policy in respect to Vietnam, without which burden he would have served a second term in office.

Of course there was the nasty theory implicating LBJ in JFK's assassination which was among a number of theories at the time, but one I could find quite plausible. People have their own thoughts and opinions on the matter, but quite a bit of information on different players of that era were exposed for public viewing.

I never met LBJ, but I did know some people who did. They were not on first name basis by any means, but familiar enough to know certain details about the man that are not widely known by the general public. Of course, as with anyone in the public eye, there will always be stories and speculation.

My own opinion of LBJ is that I think he was a powerful, very dangerous and evil man. But you know what they say about opinions.

Every state has its mistakes. I don't think we ALL need to take ownership of him or be defined but what he's done. Or maybe only the people that voted for him.

That said, I am somewhat ashamed of what he's done (and tried to do) to education in this state. I hope we find a way to fix things.

You have NO idea how much...not just now, but as long as he's been governor! Yes, bad taste in governors seems to be a thing in Texas!

The did in the anthropology class I took at the University of Texas. The professor loved to make fun of anyone who accepted creationism.
