It probably depends on the location, because I have been to one in L.A. on Sunset Blvd. that was opened past 1 AM.

Braum's is a hell of a lot better than In-n-Out.

When you are hungry after getting out of work at 10:30pm, they are much better than cardboard, and better than anything McDonalds is currently selling since they quite their Fresh line of burgers....but still not in the same category of What-A-Burger.

Both 5 Guys and Mooyah Burgers IMHO are better than In-N-Out. Not a knock on In-N-Out, just that they are a little better. I grew up in Orange County CA the home of In-N-Out and ate it on a regular basis, They are consistent and good especially if you get the burger and fries animal style.

The bar-b-que cheddar jalapeno burger at Smash Burger is great too. Try Smash Burger if you want a gourmet burger and on the litter side.

I like In n Out. I made sure to eat some when I was in Dallas. And it was remarkably consistent, just as I remember it. I'm hoping for In n Out to make it down to Houston. I heard they had some plans.

As for Whataburger, I tried some just out of curiosity. I didn't think much of it. If Whataburger is good it's definitely not consistent like In n Out is.

Anyways, the problem with In n Out is the hype. It ruins it. Waiting 10-20 minutes in line makes the food no longer fast food. I have had one other burger chain, similarly priced, that was better than In n Out and that was Steak n Shake. I had it in Normal, Illinois which is the home of that chain (didn't know it at the time). So that might just be the headquarters advantage, but if Steak n Shake is consistent it's the best burger for your money.
