AT&T Discovery Plaza is what Houston has no answer to.

Until Discovery Plaza is finished and we see how it's used, we can't really brag about it. I've seen many large projects more than live up to expectations such as Clyde Warren Park and I've seen plenty of flops such as the "signature bridges" in Dallas.

I still can't believe we built those stupid bridges. They look so silly the 99% of the time the trinity is a creek.

Color me Skeptical, but I don't think Discovery Plaza will change much of anything...It will be a corporate ped mall where there is already a corporate ped mall. It isn't filling in a bunch of unused lots or really changing much at all.

A nice facelift for AT&T workers but not much else.

What would really be something to brag about is having wider and more consistent sidewalks, mandatory and enforced scaffolding on work done and Dallas treating Pedestrians as better than 2nd class citizens.

Dallas (and DFW overall) has real economic diversity. Despite whatever claims have been made to the contrary, Houston is largely Oil and Gas dependent.

The corollary to this is that Houston has real existential economic health issues, and Dallas pretty much doesn't, unless you divorce the City of Dallas from its suburbs (where most of the economic action is).

I went down there when I was in town last week to check that area out, and I'm not sure what the big fuss is about. Its just a pedestrian district in front of a corporate HQ with screens and lights. Nice to have for the people that work nearby for sure but nothing game-changing for the city imo.

How are the bridges a flop....They spurred interest(from Developers) into seeing whats in west Dallas....Now there's a whole new neighborhood...right on the other side of the bridge.

Kolache Factory has a couple of locations in DFW. It's good, though much more expensive than the local donut places. I recommend!
