So I currently reside in Atl and I dislike it very much.. I would love to relocate either to North Carolina (Raleigh/Charlotte) or Texas(Dallas/Houston) ...I just obtained a phlebotomy license, a Cna license and also a Ekg license and I am looking for any current/retired healthcare workers that could offer a little insight on the pay in these areas... also if anyone could help with good schools and areas/sites to look for renting a house I would appreciate it ..I have two children with autism (3 & 11) and a 8 yo also... Any possible job leads would be great also... I need all the opinions that can be offered about relocating to these places lol... #I did search for similar post but was unable to find any CNA threads on this site.... Also whats the food like? Best soul food & BBQ places to eat?? -Thanks in advance please no negative comments...

In Texas, CNAs work in nursing homes and some hospitals. (Doctors offices are staffed with Medical Assistants.) Most nursing homes are always looking for a CNA or two, even if it is just PRN. CNA pay is usually around $15 hourly. Hospitals do pay better, but their CNA turnover is usually much lower. I’ve never hired EKG techs or phlebotomists, so I am not sure of their pay scales. (I worked in healthcare HR for 15 years until 2018.) The big hospital groups here are: Texas Health, Baylor Scott & White, Methodist, Presbyterian, and UT Southwestern. Parkland is the Dallas County public hospital and JPS is the Tarrant County public hospital.

The DFW area has almost 8 million people, and the metroplex is as large as the state of Connecticut. It will be important for you to find a job close to home to keep your commute short. There are nice neighborhoods with good schools all over the metroplex. There is every kind of food imaginable here. We have restaurants serving African, Asian, etc. There are also many excellent BBQ restaurants, too.

What did you dislike about Atlanta and what is the main thing you are looking for in the new place?

Well for starters the crime here ..lack of diversity ( I'm from California been here since 2016) .. school systems don't take much serious my children learned way more in California! The food isn't great... There's not much to do ... jobs pay horrible here and the people aren't as friendly as is advertised ! And I am moving to offer my children more room for growth and opportunity as they get older! I also would like to find an more appropriate place to raise my family with better paying jobs and a decent cost of living!

Keep in mind that the cost of living may be higher in DFW than in ATL. The average apartment in DFW rents for $1500 a month. Finding a house for less than $2000 in a good neighborhood is a rare find.

Default Rule this out

Dallas is not more expensive than Atlanta. Houston is definitely less expensive than Atlanta. Houston has a larger Healthcare scene than either Dallas or Atlanta and those healthcare jobs pay a little more. You should also consider Austin and San Antonio. Those are very nice cities and deserve consideration. Schools will be better In Texas.
Have you considered Florida?

This is not meant as a negative comment: you should move back to California. What you seem to be looking for is CA with low CoL. Every city will fall short of your measurement.

I think you will fit in Houston. Houston has the Texas Medical Center and the branch hospitals in the suburbs. Definitely better pay and opportunities here because the TMC attracts-and-retains top notch students and professionals.

Houston and L.A. are pretty similar. Pretty chill like SoCal and Houston is the Most Diverse City in Americaâ„¢. The lifestyle is similar with freeways (although less congested in Houston, especially with longer midday traffic lull from 9A-4P) and single-family detached housing in suburban sprawl, but significantly low COL compared to California. Houston is the affordable version of L.A.

The food scene is nationally renowned (thanks to the diversity) and is on the crossroads of Texas BBQ, Tex-Mex, Louisiana Cajun/Creole cuisine, and Gulf Coast seafood. Restaurants are affordable unlike fancy Michelin-starred celebrity chef L.A.
