Over by the art museum, they would have "Jazz under the Stars" out on the big open area along Ross avenue, for several Thursday Evenings, maybe 6. We'd lay out a big tarp after work reserve for a good group, bring coolers with little prepared dinners or what ever, wine and cheese and adult beverages and be artsy. Practice our Jazz hands. LOL. And it would be over around 9:00.

San Antonio (last only because SA lacks DT residential)
San Antonio has the largest downtown population. Tons of historic conversions.

The main ingredient SA is missing are Downtown residents. Could easily be the #1 DT in Texas.
I would agree that all TX downtowns could do with more residents, but San Antonio is by far the most populated downtown with around 25 000 residents. Austin is second with around 18 000 and growing fast. Dallas and Houston have about 6 000 residents each. If San Antonio lacks residents, Dallas and Houston REALLY lack downtown residents.

Can someone post photo examples of San Antonio's Downtown area residential developments? I'm used to the highrises, lofts etc.. inside or adjacent to the CBD's of Dallas, Austin, Fort Worth and Houston. I've never noticed much of that in SA.

Enlighten me to what's going on there.

There is a much more interesting mix of historic conversions and some new construction in downtown San Antonio - San Antonio having far more historic highrises to convert than Dallas or Houston. Here are a few links. The last one - Towers at the Majestic is particularly cool.

Dallas and Houston lack residents severely. But they also have nearby neighborhoods like Uptown Dallas, Oaklawn (Dallas), Turtle Creek (Dallas) Midtown Houston, Montrose (Houston) , and a few others that are mainly extentions of their respective downtowns. Downtown is the only game in town in S/A and Austin.

I still do not care for downtown Austin. The first time I went, i was 24 and it didn't appeal to me. I'm turning 30 soon and still don't see the hype. It's not head and shoulders above Houston like most people try to say.

San Antonio has high rise residential in different areas, Midtown, Broadway Corridor, Loop 410, I-10 corridor, 281 corridor.
