Dude, you hit the nail on the head. I have been thinking that for so long. Ever since my friend had issues with his Vw 1.8T drive by wire system.
Kudos to you!!
Because everyone wants safety. And with safety comes a price. The price for stability control comes with an electronically controlled throttle.. thus no cable. Thats why..

Yeah, Heaven knows I fly off the road uncontrollably every 200 yards when I drive anything with a real actual cable for the throttle.
Maybe we just need to learn and teach how to actually DRIVE again, instead of expecting to sit in an easy chair and float along to our destination with as little input as possible.
So, in the wake of this Toyota disaster, anybody think there'll be some really good deals on Toyota products soon?
I think the media is making it out ot be a little more spectacular than it really is, which isn't anything new for them.
There's been many serious safety related recalls by nearly every major manufacturer over the years, even involving deaths, but it just seems to me this is being blown out of proportion. Remember GM with the exploding gas tanks? I don't recall as much hoopla over that. Ford with the multiple fire issues?
Anyway, ya think Toyota will be drastically slashing prices to try and publically bounce back from this?
Its the sign of times.... one cannot blatantly say "don't buy toyota, buy a ford" ... but what the media is doing is pretty close to that, without actually saying it.
Agreed, every manufacturer has issues and this one also will pass.
Believe it or not, I'm actually concerned with how this will affect our local economy. Toyota has a big presence on the Island thus a large employee base.
I really hope this doesn't hurt anybody too badly.
True. From what I have read any VIN's starting with J means that they don't have the problem as they were built in Japan. Would this deter me from buying a Toyota? No. Like zulu said, every manufacturer has issues.
