The hearing is streaming live:

Live video | Elisa Baker hearing | WCNC.com Charlotte (http://www.wcnc.com/live-stream/Live-video-Elisa-Baker-plea-hearing-129874748.html - broken link)

Baker pleaded guilty to second degree murder to the death of her step-daughter Zahra.

Lunch break returning at 2 PM.

Ridiculous ... Baker's attorneys & the DA plea bargained down to 14-18 years in prison for the SECOND degree murder charge. This means in NC with good behavior she can be out in 7 1/2 years.

"We did the best we could with the evidence!"

Baker can receive more time for the unrelated charges against her ... nothing to do with killing Zahra and cutting her body up in pieces and dumping her remains. Another case of an adult being allowed to kill, mutilate and maim a handicapped child and then swing a plea bargain.

It's over ... the judge accepted the plea deal .. Elisa Baker received the 14-18 years in prison.

What ever happened with the father in this case? The way it was looking he was going to get off scott free.

I followed this one pretty closely as well and then all of a sudden I didn't hear anything about it.

He wasn't charged . Can you believe that? They lived in a house 800 sq ft so how in the world could one not know what was going on.

I don't feel so bad now about the sentence ...

Elisa is being held in the Gaston County jail until November. She is facing federal drug trafficking charges and the trial is in November 7. She was selling oxycodone, hydrocodone and alprazolam from 2006 to October 2010. If convicted on all 7 federal counts she is facing 140 years in prison and $2,250,000 in fines. So she may not be going anywhere in 7 1/2 years.

If you had asked me a couple of months ago I would have said no, but the way the "justice" system has been "working" lately, yeah, I believe it allright

This killer of the innocent will pay with eternal damnation in Hell. She will have her personal judgement day, when she faces God, and has the blood of this child on her hands. Some things can't be washed off.

She will be shoveling coal, right next to Casey in Hell for eternity. God will make them pay for their sins against the most innocent and helpless of his children. Whatever punishment meted to her now, is nothing compared to the penance awaiting her after this life.

This case thoroughly upset me and haunted me. I agree with whippernsnapper- the case was highlighted in the press for so long and then suddenly it went silent. I also hope Jasper is right. So saddened every single time I think of that poor poor child. May she rest in peace.
