I saw a documentary on this. There is a river close to where the car was found. It’s obvious to me that’s what happened to her. Either she fell or jumped in

I can't find any definitive statement as to whether the Ammonoosuc was frozen over or not at that time. It seems likely that it was frozen solid, given the time of year. Cadaver dogs still could have tracked her to the bank.

Many of the rivers in that area are fairly dry until the spring. They are mostly river beds, not very deep.
I would be surprised if there were many areas where it was more than 3' deep.

Depth doesn't matter if it's frozen solid and you can't fall through the ice anyway. I think it's kind of a moot point now because I don't believe she's still alive.

It also doesn't matter if you're drunk and cold and fall in, you can drown or die of hypothermia in a lot less than 3 feet of icy cold water.

The river is a non-factor in my opinion.
She would have had to been falling down drunk to drown in The Ammonoosuc.
The bus driver certainly would have noticed her if she was.

She wouldn't have to be drunk at all, drownings in shallow water happen not infrequently even in warm weather.

Of course alcohol does help. But I kind of doubt that's what happened, just because the body would probably have turned up.

The dogs would have found her if she'd been stumbling through the woods or to the riverbank. She was picked up by someone in a car and taken elsewhere.

I've driven that road and the Kancamagus.
No way she drowned and was not found. Too shallow to hide a body.
I agree with the theory that she was picked up either by a tandem driver or a stranger.

Like the dogs found the bodies at the Studey well in Iowa?

Its certainly possible she was picked up, and its possible for dogs to be wrong. Not much is off the table in this one.
