I love this last episode especially the bates/anna thing and I loved it them both smiling and reading the letters .I felt bad for the maid who had to give up her son . Im surprised that Matthew's mother did not fire the rude maid as well . I think the new footman might be on the homosexual side .

Homosexual acts were illegal in Britain at the time.

Possibly but it in the previews for next week it appeared that he was complaining to Carson about Thomas' advances. Also, hints were made that there was some kind of relationship between he and his former female employer.

Wouldn't it be nice if Julian Fellowes read viewers critiques and if he wants to write another of these "masterpieces" he can tweak it accordingly.

Like that actually meant anything. Or even bi-sexual. It was not uncommon but obviously not out in the open and people married but had their asides.

Lord Grantham claimed to be "anti-Catholic" in the episode most recently seen on PBS, so the religion issue will certainly be visited.

On an unrelated note, I wonder if Downton Abbey has lasted much longer than Mr. Fellowes intended.
I want to tell myself, but not really sure, that there was some to do about Branson and Sybil marrying last season. Seems Sybil wanted a catholic wedding, for Branson. Daddums wasn't too happy about it but finally relented.

But sometimes I'm multi-tasking during episodes. Though I know I was at mid-nite mass for that. Wait, I'm not even catholic.

I was trying to add some historical information. I'm not denying homosexuality didn't exist in England.

LOL, cute, tofu.

I had no idea that Catholics were so looked down on! Such analogies The Dame came up with, lol.

I can't help but think Jimmy and O Brien are connected somehow and they are setting Thomas up.

When I first saw James, I thought that he arrived to read minds and solve murder mysteries.
