I can understand building something into the show where the outage affected guns somehow. However, what doesn't make sense to me is where did they get all these flintlocks and muskets? Are there really that many of them out there? Without manufacturing capability, you sure aren't making new ones easily so they would have to be ones just laying around somewhere.
All those old guns, and everything from that era are in museums. And that's where they got them from. Well...that and people that collected them.

There are plenty of MODERN replicas being made in the United States. There are very few restrictions by the Federal government on owning, trading and even manufacturing Black Powder weapons. There are small hobby machine shops scattered all over the country that are equipped to make Black Powder firearms.
Yes, I noticed that too. The actress who plays Notkatniss=Charlie is not very good.
And I am confused on the time frame here. It seems rushed. One day they are in Chicago and then the next day they have WALKED to Pontiac, IL (which is in southern IL). Believe me, I live in Illinois and you can't walk that distance in one day and night.
And Notkatniss/Charlie was able to find Miles quickly the very next day in the middle of some forest.
I agree with the poster who says the writers might be making this up as they go along like they did with Lost.
I'm trying to give it a chance. I really loved LOST, but I must admit this show so far has had some pretty bad acting/writing. The main character (Charlie) having such a poor actress is painful, I agree. It's like they want her to be a badassed (yet ethical) Katniss Everdeen, but instead she is falling flat.
I don't mind the flashbacks because I personally like that method of story-telling, but the scene where her uncle was attacked by an absurd amount of men was ridiculous... like they couldn't just swarm him?
The new girl (explosives expert) seems like she could be a good addition to their group, I'd like to know how the mom came to work for the "Others" & I guess I am now curious about the man with the cow-prod.
An interview with the actress playing Rachel, the supposedly dead mother who's actually living with the enemy in rather luxurious quarters (which resemble Independence Hall both inside and out - nice touch) made it clear that her character is actually being held hostage. However, there has to be more to explain why her treatment differs so radically (well, until that knife-to-the-throat scene) from that of other prisoners...

When the pulse happened, he hurried in the door and she asked as if she knew what was going on if it was soon. I'm sure she knows some. But not enough. That's why they want him. She might be getting the 'nice' treatment since she seems to be working on it. But she must know he will some day have limited patience. Sometimes you do what you can to live. She must believe he's alive.
