I have only visited PR once, we had a long layover in PR between planes when returning from a sailboat charter in the Virgin Islands, so we took a taxi into Old San Juan for a few hours of exploring. We were very impressed with how friendly everyone was and how lively and vibrant it was compared to both the US and British Virgin Islands. We encountered so many sullen and unfriendly locals in the Virgin Islands, PR was a refreshing change and we always swore we would return for a longer visit. That is finally going to happen this winter, we are planning a vacation there with family members.

I had the same experience in St. Thomas!!!!! They were not friendly at all.
the coffee is incredible if you're lucky to find a place or person who can make it good. I still remember a cup of coffee I had there 23 years ago. Still remember it! It was at a friend of a friend's home and this older lady made it with so much love and care. Never had a better cup of coffee. Don't even remember how she made it, wish i had asked her and wrote it down, but was too young.
