I guess I'm hanging out with the wrong crowd LOL! I've seriously never heard anyone talk like this! I hear "cheers" a lot (instead of "Thank-you") which I find kinda neat.
Well, not in the north. I have been in Manchester for 5 years now and never, not once, have I ever heard someone say "cheerio" unless it was directly followed by an "S" while buying the cereal: Cheerios / Our brands - Nestle Cereals

Thank you
Manchesters not really "the North" anyway-just MO but most people who live in Yorkshire, Northumberland, Tyneside, Teesside and Wearside areas would say the same I think.
Cheers in the North is mostly said when you have a drink in your hand!
Not used very often instead of thanks.
Probably only older generations though - like I said... been here 5 years and never heard a single person say it. If it was as popular as you're trying to make it sound, I surely would have heard it at least once by now! It's a dying phrase, at best.

'Cheerio' is the sort of word I can imagine my grandmother in Yorkshire saying, but she was born in 1930. If anybody under 40 said it I'd be shocked. And how's Manchester not culturally/linguistically in the north? IMO the boundary for the north stretches roughly from Liverpool to about Grimsby. 99 if not 100% of people in Manchester would say it's up north.
"Bloody Hell" is in just about every British movie ever made - never used though..
I'm pretty sure I've heard plenty of people here say that.
